LTE is an upgrade path for GSM operators, yes, but it isn't a GSM network but a new IP-based entity. GSM phone users won't suddenly be able to use Verizon's LTE network. 2. Clearwire uses WiMax not CDMA -- mobile WiMax is very similar to LTE, it uses the same underlying radio technology. 3. Not a chance that Apple will have an LTE phone ready by 2010, Qualcomm and other chip vendors don't have the silicon ready to go in the phones. Maybe 2012, more likely 2013-2015.
