Verizon Hiring Android Expert: Hub, Phone, Netbook?

by verizon voyager on April 27th, 2009

The Verizon Hub is an interesting product proposition that intends to revolutionize the home phone slash desk phone. Unfortunately the concept is still a bit dated for a device that does limited additional tasks like displaying a calendar, checking the weather and whatnot. Verizon has already announced they will open The Verizon Hub to 3rd party applications later this year, presumably with the launch of a Verizon Hub 2, and it looks like the Hub 2 might run Android.

The Verizon Hub already runs on a Linux OS… Android is also a Linux OS. But perhaps more importantly, Verizon is now hiring an Android Devices Expert in Waltham, Massachussets. The candidate will be responsible for end to end delivery of innovative java based mobile applications on existing or pre-commercial handsets with an initial focus on voicemail applications. Hmmm… sounds like it could fit with the Hub?

Yes, it does. But it could just as well fit a Verizon Android Phone of any sort or even a netbook or something else our imagination might not be able to conjure up. Heck, if the preferred experience with RIM JDK as a big plus is saying anything, perhaps we could be looking at a BlackBerry Android Phone for Verizon Wireless!

I don’t really care WHAT Verizon is hiring an Android Devices Expert for I’m just incredibly, extremely happy to see they’ve taken this step. Verizon Wireless customers have expressed deep concern about the company’s failure to acknowledge Android as a viable platform moving forward. But it seems now they recognize the potential and are merely being guarded about their public interest in an unproven technology.

Make us proud, Verizon! Android Phones, Android Hubs, Android Netbooks for Verizon Wireless in 2009 and 2010… make it happen!
