LG Voyager 2 Renamed LG enV Touch?

by verizon voyager on May 11th, 2009

It is a sad day in Voyager land everybody… it appears that the LG Voyager brand name has reached the end of the road. The news isn’t all bad – the concept will live on but will seemingly be swallowed by the LG enV line of branded products. At first, the existence of a 2nd generation Voyager seemed promising:

  1. In March, the LG VX11000 passed through the FCC and since the LG Voyager was the LG VX10000, everybody hopefully assumed this would become the LG Voyager 2.
  2. In April, we saw what was assumed to be the LG Voyager 2 next to the LG enV3.

lg-voyager2But according to PhoneArena, a reliable source inside Verizon Wireless has said that there will be no Voyager 2. The VX11000 does exist but it will be called the LG enV Touch. Speculation is that the “Voyager” trademark by Plantronics for their Bluetooth headsets is the reason for the change. Verizon had to put a disclaimer below all LG Voyager mentioned items reading:

“Voyager™ is a trademark of Plantronics, Inc. used under license by Verizon Wireless.”

We’re guessing Plantronics either didn’t wish to extend that license again, made the pricetag too high or Verizon Wireless didn’t feel like paying anything considering the strength and awareness of their enV brand line. I’m disappointed that the Voyager brand won’t live on – at least if this rumor is true – but it does make sense to have it be adopted by the enV family.

So for whatever its worth, that is the skinny on the Voyager 2… it probably won’t exist. Or it will, reincarnated as the LG enV Touch VX11000… I suppose it depends how you want to look at it. As long as the phone rocks, who really cares. And it looks like it will rock – here are some of the rumored specs:

  • Two 480 x 800 pixels display (the external one is a touchscreen)
  • S-Class UI
  • Full QWERTY keypad
  • 3MP camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 3.5mm headset jack
  • MicroSDHC card support, up to 16GB

Nice big display, camera with flash and a 3.5mm headphone jack. This is going to please a LOT of people.

I have been a proud owner of the Voyager since it first came out. I love this phone to death! I do sometimes wish to get a new one, but I haven’t found anything close to being as good as it. I heard about the Voyager 2 and became super excited! I really do hope they name it Voyager 2.. my bff is a diehard enV lover and idk he hates voyager.

    <3 I hope it lives on…

LG enV Touch available for sale on Best Buy for a whopping $599.99. This is much more than the anticipated $219.99 with a new two-year agreement with Verizon, so we’re guessing this is the full price without a contract. Also, somebody at Best Buy must have jumped the gun because the original estimate was that the enV Touch was to be in stores starting June 5

Share your views at http://www.Env-Touch.com I just can’t believe the price Verizon wants for this phone.
