Applet Tablet Coming Setember, No Verizon?

You probably know about the rumored Apple Tablet heading to Verizon. Those initial rumors were mainly blogosphere based but now the Financial Times is weighing in on the issue saying a September launch is likely. Unfortunately, the details don’t look very good for any Verizon involvement.
The Financial Times talked to “4 people familiar with the situation”, saying a partnership codenamed “Cocktail” involving Apple, EMI, Sony Music, Warner Music and Universal Music Group is behind the tablet. The companies are rushing to put together a Christmas-time blitz that will pit the product against Amazon Kindle.
In addition to being for music the Tablet will also focus on video and movies, connecting to iTunes for downloads. Whether or not the device would download Ebooks is unclear but if it does, it could mean big trouble for Amazon. With Kindle being the hands down market leader, Apple could effectively cut their market share in half merely by a brand presence in the product category.
No mention of a carrier is made, making us wonder whether the tablet is a separate device from the other rumors or whether the initial rumors were bogus. This will be VERY interesting to follow… and trust me – we’re following it.
