Verizon allowing AirSage use of their wireless signaling data
| by Shawn Brown on July 14th, 2009 |
Verizon for whatever reason has agreed to allow AirSage to use their wireless signaling data to help better calculate real-time traffic information across the United States. Verizon’s raw data will quadruple the amount of raw data usage that AirSage has to calculate and predict traffic.
With so much extra data AirSage will be able to make much more accurate predictions. The data will be collected through their own Wireless Signal Extraction (WiSE) technology. Apps such as Google Maps and Real Traffic will help AirSage with their own mapping products. All this news may have many customers wondering if their personal data is safe now but AirSage says that the data coming from Verizon’s customers is completely anonymous so no personal information is actually at risk. Sounds a little fishy to me, why not jump to another carrier who does not allow 3rd party companies have your data traffic?
