Verve Local helps Verizon Wireless “Go Local”

With the announced launch of Verizon Wireless’ 4 new phones, including the Verizon LG Voyager, customers have been excitedly reassured that producing cutting edge hardware is company priority. But will that come at an expense to other areas, like tools and applications that make their phones increasingly useful? If the latest news is any signal – definitely not.
The Verve Local service can be accessed by Verizon Wireless customers via their Mobile Web 2.0 channels and it looks to have some awesome features. According to the press release: “With Verve Local, Verizon Wireless customers can access leading news, entertainment, restaurant guides, event listings, community calendars, and more from their trusted local media sources – including daily newspapers, alternative newsweeklies and city magazines.”
This local content is often elusive to consumers searching the web via large engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Providing users with a local solution based that is with them – and their phone – at any given time could prove to be invaluable. Travel much? No problem. No matter where you are, you’ll be able to get local information from the Local Category in your Mobile Web 2.0 platform. Perhaps tourists won’t have to feel so touristy when their so connected with the community immediately around them.
Verve Local and Mobile Web 2.0 comes as part of the VCast package which provides you with unlimited monthly access for $15. With Verizon continually adding features to their service, it’s becoming a better bargain each and every day.
