Verizon’s rugged G’zOne Rock passes the FCC

by Shawn Brown on July 9th, 2009

We have finally reached the point when other companies are entering markets that they previously have little or no experience in and it’s really hit or miss at this point. Can they do as well as Apple has with the iPhone? In short there are very few come from behind victories when stacked up to the iPhone, Palm has come as close as we can assume a mobile phone will at this point but it seems some companies are not even trying.

Why is it that CDMA carriers seem to have a need to have a selection of rugged (construction phones) with push-to-talk capabilities? At any rate Verizon is getting this appropriately named “G’zOne Rock” which just got the thumbs up from the FCC. With a name like that I just want to chuck it off the nearest rooftop to see just how indestructible it really is. No doubt that this will be a mixture of black and red or crimson.

The G’zOne Rock looks as if it is a flip phone as most rugged phones tend to be. As with most of the phones seen on the FCC website there is no word on availability or pricing as of yet but as always we will keep you posted as soon as it becomes available.

Is that a real statement or sarcasm? If its true I picture you writing this while at a coffee shop sipping an ice frappé gayé latte. Maybe even with a poodle on your lap. At least ditch the pink scarf though man, its way to much.

Rugged is awesome when youre coming from a company where 30-40% of your mobile phone users are Field Service mechanics. We break lots of phones here – the G’Zone has been awesome – looking forward to the Rock!

I agree with you there but we are coming from a consumer electronics standpoint, not a business customer standpoint. This is where Verizon is lacking.
