RIM CEO Addresses Storm 2!

by verizon voyager on May 4th, 2009

jim_balsillieThe BlackBerry Storm was the 3rd most popular phone in the United States during Q1 2009 so to say it was “a huge success” – as Jim Balsillie did today – is in no way an overstatement. We know plenty of people who love their BlackBerry Storm and pretty soon, they might love their BlackBerry Storm 2!

In direct response to a question about the BlackBerry Storm, Balsillie added:

Balsillie said Storm sales remain strong and added “we have next-generation devices with that and the whole roadmap.”

That is the kind of stuff I like to hear. But if I could ask a question, I would ask if BlackBerry planned to launch other touchscreen devices that were not part of the Storm brand. Many people viewed the Storm as BlackBerry’s answer to the iPhone but now they can extend their lineup horizontally with a number of touchscreen phones. Why not take a traditional BB QWERTY like the BlackBerry Bold and give its screen the touchscreen?

Hopefully we see the fruits of this “next-generation” labor sooner rather than later.
